How to identify if Magic Keyboard is for 3rd gen M1 iPad Pro 11 inch or earlier

Is there anyway to tell from the serial # of the Magic Keyboard to determine if it’s a 2nd gen or 1st gen for the iPads?

Yes there is a way. Note down the Serial Number of the Magic Keyboard. Head over to ➔ Check Service & Coverage Status and then enter the serial number of the Magic Keyboard. You will then see the description of the Magic Keyboard along with its generation and other information.

Magic Keyboards for iPad are obviously model specific.

The first, second and third generation iPad Pro 11” all have identical physical dimensions - however, the first generation iPad Pro 11” has a single rear camera - whereas the second and third generation iPad Pro 11” have the larger raised square rear three-camera array. This is the single significant factor that determines compatibility of the Magic Keyboard with your model of iPad Pro 11”

If the Magic Keyboard has the large square camera aperture, to accommodate the iPad camera array, you can use the Magic Keyboard with any of the three models of iPad Pro 11”.

If instead the Magic Keyboard does not have the large square camera aperture, the Magic Keyboard can only be used with the first generation iPad Pro 11”.
