Can mkv files hack or inject virus?

I downloaded a mkv file from some link over telegram, then played it in vlc

is it possible that the file can hack iphone or inject Some malware/virus

For all practical purposes your phone cannot be infected by a virus or any other malware. There are a few exceptions, but they apply primarily to a few individuals who are well known on the world stage, such as political leaders, activists and journalists in countries with repressive governments, international criminals, terrorists, etc.
