Iphone 4 - Wifi Password Problems

My home has an apple router, so I never had this problem until this week.

I cannot logon to most wifi spots. The phone sees the router, but gives the following error: "Incorrect password for 'router'".

The password is correct, but I can connect with my computer or others phones, not the Iphone4. I have tried a dozen spots, houses, cafes, airports etc.. and I could get one or two to work.

I am using the correct password- it has to be driver problem.

Any ideas? I have reset the network settings back to the factory settings. No difference.

Thanks

I'm having the same/similar problem with my new i phone, it looses known routers, and wont connect to 'free' wifi spots, always asking for a password.

I have just re entered the password for my office router and it is working again, I can turn off wifi, and when I turn in on again it will find the router, if I leave the building for a few hours, it will loose the router and ask for the password again, it's driving me nuts, can someone talk me through an idiots guide to resetting everything on the networks? It sounds like a fault to me?

Did you transfer the backup for a previous iPhone to your new iPhone?

If so, there probably lies the problem.

On your iPhone go to Settings > General > Reset and select Reset Network Settings.

This will erase all wi-fi network settings from your iPhone which will require re-joining all wi-fi networks that you have access to.

If no change after this, try restoring your iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup.

If no change after restoring your iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup, more than likely your iPhone has a hardware problem. The iPhone includes a one year warranty.

I have had this happen many times. The password that I typed in was also correct. I found out that the reason why this happened was because my router has a further range than what the Iphone 4 has on wifi. My phone was able to pick up the signal from my router, but my router couldn't pick up the signal from my phone.

Basically, I found that all that I had to do was to move closer to the router and this took care of my problem. Also, don't hold the top left corner of the phone. Doing so, degrades the Wifi connection.

i myself have had this problem, i could be sat next to the router. Definately using the correct password and it wouldnt connect after about 20 attempts it would connect but then lose the connection after a while and the process would start again. i tried resting the network settings as well as setting up as a new phone but still the problem persisted. sometime it would say it was connected but when trying to browse websites it wouldnt even show the wifi symbol. I changed my router and since then i have not had a problems. connects every single time without a hitch. not sure if its a firmware problem with some routers.

I notice that no one has resolved this issue. I tried everything in this forum tonight, and every other forum I could possibly find on Google, and then after 9 hours, I decided to simply use my Airport Utility to change the network password. Problem solved. Slightly annoying to have to change every wireless device now, but hey... it worked. Hope this helps.

This is insane. I have reset the network connections on the phone, but I cannot get the operator of every wifi network that I connect to, to reboot their connection points.

And in any case, it hasn't helped at home - it still doesn't work.

Made much more difficult because WiFi passwords tend to be long and convoluted, and typing them in reliably is difficult.

I don't understand why there is no option to reveal the password as you type it. After all, it is not like it is a 50" plasma on the wall of a pub - it is relatively easy to keep the phone from prying eyes. And they have no qualms about allowing it on a 27" imac screen.

I am distinctly hating my iPhone right now. I am putting this in the too hard basket for the moment.

Similar problem here. My iphone4 works fine on my wifi at home where our 2 laptops, my ipod touch 3G and friends' laptops have no problem. I'm visiting my folks where I've set up a laptop (HP) with a cisco wifi router. My ipod touch logs on fine as it always did. My new iphone4 keeps giving me an error of "Unable to connenct to..." despite being 100% sure I've got the right password. I've reset the network settings on the iphone4 and turned on and of the router. No success. Very frustating. So much for consolidating my ipod into a phone. Was going to get a Macbook next. Question now whether I go back to Apple after 25+ years (first PC was an Apple IIe).

Hi,

just read all of the answers. Having same problems with iphone 4. All was OK for a month or two after getting the phone but then started losing the wi-fi pswd. In the end it was losing it again after only several minutes. I updated the iphone software when the latest came out and it seemed to cure the problem for about a week or so. Then two days ago it started doing it again. The pswd is correct when put in all 64 characters of it as it works straight away. But after a day or so it again loses the pswd. It is definately not the address i.e 169. for example. So Apple NEED TO GET THEMSELVES SORTED OUT out or my phone will be going back.

I am having a similar problem. We have two iPhone 4's in our house, and they both do the same thing. When you unlock the phone half the time it senses and works off of the wifi fine, the other half it never turns off the 3G. When it is on 3G and you try to select our home network (which it is showing as present with a full signal) it tries to connect then tells you that the password is incorrect. All the wireless devices in the house, other than the iPhones, work fine. Very frustrating, and potentially costly as sometimes it switches to 3G when you are in the middle of doing something... I have tried restarting my modem, resetting my iPhone's network settings, and while one of the iPhones was restored from another iPhone the other has all new settings... I am uncertain about how to proceed, I wonder if taking it to an apple store might help? Maybe they know a solution?
