Received a physical gift card at the Apple store and we (myself plus store employees) couldn’t figure out how to add it to my Apple wallet so that it could be used in store or online. Help with this would be much appreciated!

I already asked this some time ago at an Apple Store, if you have one of the old gift cards that only works for hardware you could add it, the new paper ones that work anywhere can't be added. Ranks really, really low on things I care about.
I believe that the following technique may still work, and that is, if the Apple Gift Card still has a "rub-off" area on the back that reveals a QR code, you may be able to add it to the Wallet by scanning the code with your phone.
Pretty backwards technology huh, also thought iTunes got put to rest? Can I add to Apple Cash and use towards paying for services, etc? No idea why this couldn’t have been issued electronically either vs. a physical card.. 🤦♀️
You're right that Apple replaced the iTunes app with the Music app, but the iTunes Store app still exists for iPhones, iPads, & iPods. So iTunes is sorta gone. Regardless, I totally agree with you and Apple should have made the transition much smoother. I'm not sure why they still even have physical gift cards.
Sorry, but there isn't a way to add an Apple Gift Card to Apple Wallet. You just redeem them either in the iTunes or Apple Store app or in an Apple physical store.
There’s a peel off strip with a number, didn’t see QR code but will check again Seems like backwards technology IMO?!
I don't believe there is a QR code on the back of Apple Gift Cards.
Sorry, but I don't have one so I can't verify that for you. I typically get my Apple Gift cards via email.
