New Apple 24” i Mac. Apple cd / dvd external drive. ( USB )

My new 24 “ i Mac will not accept my older cd /dvd player. Believe me I have tried everything with them.

The player does work on my older 21” i mac.. Apple tell me for sure it will not and may never 👎 work.

yet they are still selling this product.

Apple external DVD player I just purchased a 24" Apple computer. It is running Ventura 13.1 with an M1 chip. It does not have a DVD player. I am trying to find a cd/dvd player compatible for this computer. I purchased some cheaper players from Amazon only to find out they are not compatible. Updated 10.15.4 Still Same Problem - Doesn't Apple Know This? Since upgrading to Catalina, when I load a original music CD in an external USB-connected Samsung CD/DVD drive, I get this message; "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer." I don't think it can be a problem caused by the device or the disk because No problem with Movie DVD's, I never had any problems on previous releases of MacOS reading music CDs, I tried two different external CD/DVD devices with the same result, I can attach the drive to a different laptop runs Win 10 handles the music CD perfectly. What's changed in Catalina and how can I fix it?

Making a 3rd Party Superdrive Work I purchased an "External DVD Drive Type-C Optical Drive Slim Slot-in CD/DVD+/-RW Burner Player USB C Superdrive for MacBook/ Window" from Shenzhen Sengulink Technology company, China through Newegg. I plugged it in my new MacBook Pro 13" (Apple chip) and loaded a CD. It automatically opened Music and played the CD. I loaded a DVD I had purchased. It opened the DVD player app and nothing happened. What do I have to do to get it to play my movies? I don't even see any indication that the computer even recognizes that the unit is attached.

Hello Alfred!

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you've been unable to use your CD/DVD player with your new iMac.

If you're using the USB SuperDrive, it wouldn't be compatible with this iMac: Apple USB SuperDrive. We're sharing this because it does list the Mac Models that are still compatible.
