My work iPhone isn't connected with my personal Apple account and I seem to have misplaced it. I'd like to use Find My iPhone but I'm not sure how with that device. I'd also like to avoid asking my IT department at work... Any help will be appreciated. Even if it's only to tell me I'm screwed.

Do you know the Apple ID that is used on your Work iPhone along with that Apple ID's password? If YES, then:
If your other device is missing that is logged in with a separate Apple ID then:
You can find that device if it's missing and has Find My [device] turned on:
You can also ➔ sign in to iCloud on a computer or another device with the Apple ID the Apple ID signed in with on the missing device. Choose Find My from the options.

You would need to use whatever Apple ID is signed in to the work iPhone to track it from iCloud.com. If you don't know it, or can't log in because you don't have the password for it, then yes you are screwed and would need to contact your work's IT department to have them track it.

A. Backtrack your Locations:
Do it the olde fashioned way and backtrack your locations. For instance, if you were at a retail store, then stop in, asking the store manger if it was placed aside.
B. Lost-&-Found:
Chick with the Lost & Found department of the facility you were in, seeing if it has been handed over.
C. Contact Local Authorities:
See if the community police, or local security guards at the front door, came across it.
D. Use Craigslist:
Put a post on Craigslist, seeing if they have been found.
