Restore old backup without deleting new stuff.

ok so about 3 years ago, in 2018, my iPhone 7 completely broke and was deemed un-fixable. Since then I’ve gotten a new phone, and therefore have taken tons of new photos and added tons of new contacts since then.

I thought everything from my broken phone was lost forever, and was most devastated about losing my camera roll, but i recently realized that I actually do have a backup of the iPhone 7 on my 2018 MacBook Pro.

My question now is can I restore/access the photo gallery from the backup without wiping/deleting everything from the iPhone 12 I now currently own.

The backup is on my 2018 MacBook Pro that is currently running OS Catalina.

(all I really care about is the photo gallery, anything else is irrelevant to me; even being able to just access the photo gallery on my MacBook would be enough)

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

No. If you restore from a backup it will erase your current device in favor of the backup.

You could try a service like imazing (imazing.com) that may let you browse your backup. Or, you could try a multistep approach:

Turn on iCloud and iCloud photos

Back up and sync your current device

When you're satisfied that everything is correct and in iCloud, disable icloud

Wipe your current device and restore using the old backup

Then, repeat the process, especially the iCloud sync
