old iPad, no password, how to reset

I have my wife's old iPad but she no longer has the password. I have a new MacBook (Monterey 12.1) with no iTunes. How can I reset the iPad?

You will need to restore the device using a computer. The process will erase the device. Later you can restore your data from a recent back-up. Instructions here…

How “old”, exactly, is this old iPad?

If this old iPad is from 2010 through 2012, like an iPad 1, 2, 3, 4 or 1st gen iPad Mini, these are not worth the efforts to reset.

These old iPad models are completely unsupported and obsolete

A full reset of these very old iPad models will render them pretty much useless, now.
