Siri issues connecting to Facetime contact: asking which number, then fails

I’ve been having issues calling my dad via facetime for a while now.

1) “Siri call dad”

2) Siri asks me which phone number, home or mobile

3) I choose either number

4) The call immediately ends (doesn’t even connect).

I can facetime call my dad without any issues manually via the normal green facetime buttons for audio or video call.

But this issue makes it impossible to call my dad from the car with the help of Siri.

Any trouble shooting steps would be appreciated.

Thanks Annie,

we checked that and his phone number wasn‘t activated.

just activating it wasn‘t possible as it kept showing the spinning wheel. But after research I found that he had to have iMessage activated for Facetime to be activated for his phone number. That worked.

However after he changed it, siri still asked me what contact they should use to make the call, now offering the number and his icloud email address, which I find weird that it‘d still ask that.

I then deleted his iCloud email from his contact and it finally worked.

Thanks for your help getting this sorted. Still feels Apple has a glitch in siri not just calling Facetime through _any_ of the options rather than asking me, to your first point made Annie, but at least it works for me now. !

-Raspberry-,

Are your dad’s phone numbers also registered with FaceTime or is it just the email address? Did you dad mention having issues receiving FaceTime calls from anyone else? When you make a FaceTime call, it should ring all the contact options you have for your dad's contact card. Can we verify with if things are still set up OK on your dad's end and that the email address and/or phone numbers are still registered? Do that, check in Settings > FaceTime.

Thank you.

Greetings -Raspberry-,

We understand that when using Siri in the car to make a FaceTime call to your dad the call ends before it begins.

A few questions to further isolate. If you’re not in the car and try to use Siri to make a FaceTime call to your dad is the situation different? How about if you use Siri in the car to make a regular cellular call to your dad? Does this happen with any other contacts?

Do you use CarPlay in your vehicle?

Thanks.

Hi Annie,

it’s not just in the car, it’s the same whenever I try to say it even at home

with my Bluetooth headset. I don’t use car play.

The issue is not just the call ending. It seems for whatever reason Siri doesn’t notice what the right facetime call option is for my dad?! Why does this happen for this contact over others? It seems it’s trying the phone numbers only vs the email address that’s registered?!

It doesn’t happen when I’m trying to phone call him.
