iOS 16 upgrade siri not reading back outgoing imessage

I learned that after I dictate a text and siri says “send it?” I can also say “read it. And then she will read it and ask about sending. I have to hear it first bc she gets it wrong a lot.

Also, she just stopped reading me my notifications (I have very few set) when my ear bud is in. I like for her to start speaking the text that came in when my phone is locked endear bud is in. This stopped bc of a default setting when I reset my phone. I had to go to “accessibility” in the settings, then “spoken content”then “turn on speech selection.” Separate issue but I am not sure in which thread I mentioned the problem.

Had the same issue, very frustrating. But found a way to change it back to where Siri reads the text back and then ask you to send it or not.

Goto Setting, in the Search bar at the top of the screen.

Then type in Siri & Search , just like it is shown here.

Then goto “ Automatically Send Messages”.

If the toggle button is green, touch it and it should turn off and now will be gray colour.

That is what I did and tested it and it worked for me.

Simply saying "read it" seems to work so at least there is a workaround.

We want to help you get the most from Siri and sending messages.

From our understanding, you'd like to have Siri speak any dictated messages back to you prior to sending, is that right? If so, you can change the way you hear spoken responses in Settings > Siri & Search > Siri Responses > Prefer Spoken Responses. Within this screen, you can also disable what Siri hears on the screen as well, or disable transcription of speech on the screen. If you'd like Siri to send your messages without confirmation, you can toggle the feature on and off here:

"You can set up Siri to automatically send a message after it has been read back to you. If you want to skip the confirmation step when sending messages, go to Settings  > Siri & Search > Automatically Send Messages."

I’m having the same problem, since the OS update to 16–I’m currently on 16.1.1. Siri no longer automatically confirms messages before I send them. She will say, “send it?” and at that point if I ask her to read it back, she will. My settings are already what the above posts suggest.

I am on 16.5 and still having this issue. For some contacts Siri will read back the text automatically but for most she will just ask if I want to send. Annoying.

I encountered the same issue. I’ve grown accustomed to just saying read it.
