I never mentioned that, though several other people did. In fact, I've never replied to you at all. The only post I've made in this thread was to suggest that TheRedRev read it before posting something that had already been suggested.

But why should I have to ? This issue never happened with this same phone before I upgraded to the iOS 16 versions so as far as I'm concerned it's a bug.

Or, it's a change Apple intentionally made because lots of people complained that the fact that Siri automatically read everything was annoying. I don't know. Apple makes intentional changes all the time, some people like them and some people don't. You can let Apple know what you'd like to see here:

This upgrade is useless if I dictate a text to be sent as a hands free option — after dictating I have to LOOK at the message. I want Siri to read back what I said so I can hear if she’s correct. the fact that I have to take an additional step and say read back without a prompt is not user friendly before saying send is silly.

I am seeing the same issue. I've tried what was suggested but this does not work.

This is an extremely important aspect of "hands free" interaction with the iPhone.

IOS 16.5 seems to have broken this.

That does not work. Siri picks and chooses the ones she wants to read back. The whole point i use voice text is for convenience and when driving. And mean i use it ALL the time. Its extremely annoying. If i knew siri got everything right all the time, great. But that’s not the case for whatever reason (not implying its only bc of her.) you would have to be absolutely crazy in my book to have Siri send messages automatically. This update has been a fail in a number of ways. Disappointing. I need my Memoji back that disappeared, my keyboard to stop acting like trash, and more importantly Siri read back messages before sending!!! Its sad how much time I’ve spent trying to figure out this Siri issue. Wish id of come to this forum sooner. Apple support- thanks for the effort but what used to work doesn’t anymore. Thank you for letting me rant

I’m having the same issue and I absolutely HATE it. It was so much better when Siri dictated the message before sending it. I don’t know why they change stuff that works. If it’s not broke don’t fix it eggheads.

Phone updated to iOS 17 this past week. Doesn’t ask for approval to send a message. Just automatically does it as reading the message to you. Well, dictation through Siri or other hands free system is horrible sometimes or I realize I can word something even better. Thought I cancelled message by exiting out before message was sent. NOPE! It sent both the original and revised ones. I want the option back of changing the message before it’s sent!!!

from the response, it seems like a bot is responding to keywords. Ever since my update, I will dictate, and where Siri used to read the message back, now there is silence. I don’t even get “send it?“ There is just silence. I can say, “yes” and it will send. Like you, my settings have not changed.

Why are you copying and pasting part of the original post?

I have the same issue and it drives me crazy. I’ll dictate a message and Siri will say, “Send it?” And, like yourself, I like to know Siri understood what I said before the message gets delivered. Unfortunately, all Siri says when I say to read it is, “To X,” and nothing of the message gets read back to me.

I am suddenly having the same issue. It started on 17.1.1 iOS update. I then updated to 17.4 and one time it worked and read back the text. But the next time I tried it, Siri just says: “it says….” and stops there. Infuriating.!

GoldieOldie13, have you been able to get it resolved yet?

GoldenOldie, mine seems to be OK now. The tones are a bit different, but Siri now seems to confirm my messages again, without any further action by me.
