Is this a feature or a bug? I appreciated hearing Siri automatically read back the text I created before sending- now all i get are "send it?" I don't want to READ what I just dictated - I want to know if Siri understood what I said before the message is sent.
I've read all the previous possible fixes for this vis a vis other iOS versions but cannot find an answer for this iOS 16.1.2

Had the same issue, very frustrating. But found a way to change it back to where Siri reads the text back and then ask you to send it or not.
Goto Setting, in the Search bar at the top of the screen.
Then type in Siri & Search , just like it is shown here.
Then goto “ Automatically Send Messages”.
If the toggle button is green, touch it and it should turn off and now will be gray colour.
That is what I did and tested it and it worked for me.

This is happening to me too. I want Siri to read back the message. Just updated to the latest iOS and still no love. Any help anyone??
I upgraded to 16.3 and am still having the problem - for some of my contacts, Siri will say "It says..." and read back; the others NADA - this stinks

yes this workaround is my temp fix but I made the mistake of calling Apple support before checking in with the Apple community
The feature you are referring to usually only works when airpods are in your ears. You can enable siri announcing calls in accessibility settings.
That is a work around but it wasn’t broke so no need to change it. So annoyed

This new update makes it EXTREMELY difficult to use normal VOICE SMS texting. Why would APPLE do this??
