stolen used mac because of device management option ?

Hello, i bought a used macbook pro 2017 13" today. i was using it normally until a notification popped up and it was written that "heetch can configure your mac automatically", i looked it up and its device management option. does that mean the mac i bought is stolen ??

It may be possible that this Mac was either a company or educational institution property and was under device management by those entities.


Could it have been stolen? Possibly ... or, at least, it shouldn't have been sold. Either way, I suggest you contact the seller to get a clarification ... or better still, your money back.

I agree you should return the laptop for a full refund. The seller did not properly prepare the laptop for resale since a previous owner still has control of the laptop. Another potential issue is whether the laptop has a firmware lock enabled which you can find out by Option-Booting the laptop. I personally would not trust anyone who doesn't properly prepare a Mac for resale as that means that person is cutting corners at best or selling a stolen computer at worst. You don't want the laptop in either case. This is one of the dangers of buying a pre-owned Mac. If you want a pre-owned Mac, then purchase it directly from Apple or perhaps an authorized Apple reseller (but still be careful with the latter to make sure no firmware lock is enabled or being managed).
