Hey there, 28wailerster!

Thanks so much for using Apple Support Communities.

Being able to back up your Mac is super important, especially when you're experiencing an issue with the Mac that might require a repair.

Are you able to turn the MacBook Air on, even if you can't see the display? For example, do you hear any audio or see the keyboard illuminate when you press the power button? If so, then you may be able to connect your MacBook to an external display in order to see what's on the screen and initiate the backup process. Here is some more information on that: Connect a display to your Mac. Once you've done that, you can follow the guidance here to create the backup: Back up your Mac with Time Machine.

If you can't see the MacBook screen, however, then you may not be able to back up that data. One other option could be reaching out to a data recovery specialist in your area to see if they may be able to assist further.

Good luck!
