whenever i try to record audio messages on imessage, no audio is picked up for the first few seconds. Sometimes it’ll be 3 seconds sometimes 7 sometimes closer to 10. after that, it’ll start recording again. how can i fix this?

Thanks for following up and testing to see if this issue occurs when recording a voice memo. You might want to check and make sure that your iPhone is running the latest iOS version. If any updates are available be sure to backup your iPhone before installing and once completed test creating a voice message for improvement once updated.

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. We understand that you're experiencing a delay when attempting to send a voice message in Messages app. Do you recall when this issue first appeared? Was it after an iOS update or other changes to your device? If you open Voice Memo app, do you experience that same delay with the microphone?
We see that you're using an iPhone 11. What's the iOS version currently installed on this device? This is in Settings > General > About.

I noticed this change after i got my screen replaced at a repair kiosk in one of my local malls. I’m pretty sure he didn’t put on an authentic Apple screen. Despite that, i have no issues with voice memo or anything else that uses my microphone. i currently have IOS 15.1
