Superdrive no longer recognized by MacBooks

MacBook Pro mid 2012/Mac OS 10.14.6 this device used to recognize Superdrive but somewhere along the line, I stopped working. Why??

MacBook Pro 21/macOS 12.0.1. - I was hoping this new machine will solve the problem, but no.

the symptom is when I put in the disc, it spits back..

I invested in 2 Superdrives and none is working. I wish Apple provides some answers and fixes.

Per Apple, The Apple USB SuperDrive is compatible with Mac models from 2008 and later that don't have a built-in optical drive.

MacBook Pro 2012 has an integrated slot-loading optical drive.

McBook Pro M1 2021 14” and 16” should work with SuperDrive, with a USB-C to USB-A adapter that can pass sufficient power. I’d expect the Apple Adapter would work here. Unpowered USB hubs and complex USB cabling may not have sufficient power.
