files not uploading to iCloud

I see that this same problem has been posted for several months. This is STILL a problem... using Safari on my Mac Pro, trying to upload a spreadsheet to iCloud and continually getting a message that the file could not be uploaded, and try again later. There has been plenty of time for Apple to address this.

If I open the spreadsheet on my iPad or iPhone and then save to iCloud, it works fine. I can then download it onto my Mac, or iPhone, or iPad and make changes, which are recorded into the spreadsheet, and the modifications can be read and edited by all my devices. So the problem seems to be restricted to uploading the original file from the Mac to iCloud.

Emailing the spreadsheet to myself and opening it on an iOS device is a viable workaround, but that should not be necessary after investing a considerable amount of money in a powerful computer that is supposed to be integrated seamlessly into Apple's working environment.

Hello MacBugs4,

We understand that you're having ongoing trouble with uploading files from your Mac to the iCloud. Is this issue only happening with the spreadsheet files (and is that Numbers or Excel) or was it happening with other files as well? Also, could you walk us through the steps that you're taking on the Mac Pro to upload these files?

Thanks!

I didn't know whether the problem existed with other files, so I tried to upload a pages document, and got the same result, stating the file couldn't be uploaded, try again later.

The spreadsheet file I was trying to upload was a Numbers file.

I tried two ways to upload the file from my Mac Pro.

  1. I opened the Numbers folder in iCloud and tried to drag the file into the folder.
  2. I used browse, then upload, and navigated to the file I wanted to upload.

I got the same message either way I tried: The file "couldn't be uploaded. Try uploading the file again later."

The only way I could get the file into iCloud was to email it to myself, open it on my iPad (and I assume this would also work with my iPhone), and save to iCloud. Once the file is saved to iCloud, it works as expected on all my devices. I can open it, make modifications, and close it, and the next time I open it, no matter which device I use, the changes have been made.
