i updated os x and now safari won’t work

i was installing the recent os x update, and as my mac was shutting down to restart and install the update, safari stopped responding, so i had to force it to quit. the update installation went fine otherwise, but once i signed back into my computer, safari didn’t work anymore. it keeps stalling (spinny rainbow ball) and then crashing every time i try to launch it, and i keep getting what i think is the same error message (“safari quit unexpectedly”)

and the same thing happens in safe mode

so, searching the internet for ideas, i’ve cleared the cache files. i’ve run disk utility’s first aid in recovery mode (everything came back fine), and so, i don’t know what to do now.

any ideas and suggestions would be very much appreciated

And it deletes some system caches, including font caches and

the kernel cache, which are automatically created again as needed
