Live Photo not sending in iMessages

i’m on an iPhone Xr (running 15.1) and suddenly my Live Photos are sending as still photos. My partner is on iPhone 13 Max Pro and is also suddenly having this same problem. We’re both connected to wifi and everything else is working normally. We’ve checked out message settings and have “low quality mode” turned off. This problem started two days ago - before that all was working normally and there have been no changes to our operating systems in those two days. Any tips?

When you receive a Live Photo on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch via Messages, tap the photo to open it, then firmly press and hold to see it come to life.

If you're using Messages on your Mac, double-click the Live Photo to open it. The Live Photo plays through once. To play it again, click the LIVE button in the bottom-left corner of the photo.

Exactly. But my phone is neither sending nor receiving Live Photos via iMessage. That’s the trouble.
