Muted contact on imessage

Hello, my question is simple. When you mute a contact on I message and delete the contact, this contact remains muted. But if you change to a new IPhone device will it still be muted in case they want to contact you or the mute action goes away? I do not intend to send them any message to unmute the contact and the thread is by far deleted. Thanks a lot
