Macbook Pro stuck in sleep mode?

My MacBook Pro (late 2011) 15 inch was working fine, i run windows 7 in virtual machine and I shut it down, after that the macbook froze. I closed the lid and went to sleep because it was quite late. Since then it won’t restart. When I press the power button there’s no chime, the screen doesn’t change it just stays black, the sleep indicator light comes on and stays dimly lit. If I close the lid the sleep indicator light becomes brighter. It’s as if it’s stuck in a sleep mode that won’t allow it to restart. I’ve tried doing all the usual resets that are recommended (SMC, PRAM), disconnected the battery, taken out the RAM, but nothing has made a difference.

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 10.13
