When email has embedded images the system sometimes has a button in the upper right corner of the email that says something like "download images" however, more often than not there is no button yet I know the emails have embedded images. There is nothing in the preference>images that turns this on or off. How can I make the email work properly?

Have you updated to 12.1? There were some issues like that in 12.0.1, but they appear to have been fixed in 12.1.

There may be some third party software modifications causing havoc. The report is our best chance to try and figure it out.
No, they were not fixed in 12.1 in fact they appear to have gotten worse. Indeed now Safari is not displaying images properly either. Major problems.
