External DVD Drive not recognised by my MacBook Air (m1, 2020)

Bought an "I/O Magic External DVD-RW Drive" today and my MacBook Air doesn't even see it. The device gets power but doesn't do much else! The device's manual says it should show up in Finder, and/or on my Desktop.

I insert a disc, it does nothing, then ejects the disc.

Another discussion says a system update disabled it and I should wait for the next update which should(?) fix it!

Hi Ray Powell,

It seems you're having trouble with your DVD Drive and we can help.

One thing with external drives is sometimes they can require a lot of power to run correctly, more than what is normally supplied by a USB port.

How are you connecting your drive? Try using a powered hub or if your drive supports it, connect to multiple USB ports.

Let us know if that helps.
