Trust certificate missing for Facebook related apps

I bought a 2nd hand iPad 6th gen which is running ios15.

There is an issue with the trust certificate only for Facebook and its related apps - Messenger etc (all other apps and websites are working). Would something important have been removed with a factory reset perhaps?

When logging in to the mentioned apps, the error message is 'verifier failure: openssl cert verify error:

self signed certificate in certificate chain'.

I have read much info saying to go into settings and enable all root certificates but this option doesn't appear in the certificate trust settings menu.

The device is using the sample apple ID as my iPhone. Can I somehow share the settings or certificate that I seem to be lacking?

Please help as the device was primarily needed for the Messenger Kids app which will not log in - basic computer lingo would be appreciated .

Hello belc_80,

Thanks for reaching out to us in Apple Support Communities about being told to install trust certificates. We're happy to help by looking into this more!

This is typically only an issue with managed devices, like device intended for a school or business. You can check if there are installed profiles on your device by going into Settings > General > VPN & Device Management. If you find any profiles installed there, it would be best to restore this iPhone to factory settings, especially if it's a second hand device. You can see how this is done here:

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings

Hope this helps.

Best Regards.
