Operating System update accidentally installed on external hard drive

I accidentally installed the new operating system to my external drive. It appeared to wipe all my files but I was THANKFULLY able to locate them.

I went to my external hard drive in finder and did Command + Shift + . This showed me all the hidden folders, and all of my files are under Volumes

My question is, how I I unhide these files so they are visible?

Thank you!

If they're on a different volume, choose Computer from the Finder's Go menu and open it. Otherwise, drag the folder containing them out of the Volumes one.
