Has anyone found a way to get the quick format bar back into the Notes app on an IPad Air? I had it pre-update, now it’s gone. I’ve tried updating the app, uninstalled and reinstalled it, to no avail.

When the keyboard is pulled up in the Notes app do you see a circle with a plus sign in it? If so, are you able to tap on that and get some additional options such as the option to insert a table or bullets, or a picture? The 'Aa' should be with those options as well.

On your iPad please force quit the Notes app then go to Settings > General > Keyboard. If Shortcuts is not enabled here, please enable it. Launch the Notes app and pull up the keyboard. Do you see that ‘Aa’ above the keyboard now when the keyboard is pulled up?

We understand that you’re looking for a formatting bar in the Notes app on your iPad.
After you’ve typed a note, to change the formatting you should be able to tap the ‘Aa’ option and change things like the font style, adding bullets, etc. Take notes on iPad.

Another thing you can try is viewing the keyboard shortcuts available for use with the external keyboard. You can view the shortcuts on an app by app basis.
In the Notes app when you press and hold the Command key on your external keyboard do you then see a list of keyboard shortcuts? That is described in the following article under section, 'Use keyboard shortcuts'. It also has information for viewing the system-wide keyboard shortcuts. Use shortcuts on an Apple external keyboard with iPad.

Thank-you for your reply. Where exactly is the Aa option? Before the update to iOS15+, it WAS available, it no longer is. I have used this app since I got my first ipad, and never had any issues, until this one. The Aa option doesn’t even appear in the app photo in the link you provided. I could use the shortcuts to change italic, bold, etc., but there are no options anywhere to change heading styles.
Yes, that works fine for the notes app. Thank-you. But it creates an issue I wanted to avoid. Now a little keyboard icon appears on every app with a text box (when you click in the text box to input text). It’s a distraction, and sometimes a hindrance. I’ll have to test this theory out a little bit.
It’s not as bad as I thought it would be. I think I could work with it. My external keyboard has a key that switches the hardware to the software keyboard (which is how I’ve been switching previously). I do appreciate all your help on this, and understanding the frustrations.
I don’t use an Apple external keyboard, but your instruction to hold the CMD key works with mine. It also provides more options than I had pre-iOS15 update! Thanks again! You’ve been extremely helpful with this issue!
I’m attaching a screenshot of what I see with the on screen keyboard on. The only options for editing appear in the top right corner. That’s all there is.
Also note, my iPhone has all the options, my iPad does not.
