Purchasing Mac Mini and AppleCare

I’m about to purchase a Mac Mini and AppleCare. I’d like to do the twelve monthly payments option for the Mac rather than cash up front. When I select the monthly payment option, I’m told that I cannot have the AppleCare option to pay $34/year for AppleCare (which can be renewed yearly), apparently my only choice with monthly payments is to pay $99 for three years of AppleCare.

I don't understand this restriction. I intended to keep the Mac for a long time, and I like the security of AppleCare. I can’t afford to pay for the computer in one payment, and I can’t afford to potentially repair or replace a computer in three years.

Is there a way to obtain a yearly renewable AppleCare contract when purchasing via monthly payments?
