I just purchased a 2020 apple air, and a apple superdrive. When I plug the drive into the adapter, I get a msg to the effect: plug your usb device into a a USB port....duh. I plug same device into my 2011 iMac, and have no problem. What gives?

Imac internal drive no longer works, I am told at apple store that the iMac is 'obsolete', period. This aft describing problem w/ details on model and problem, getting an appt, and then coming in and waiting for a rep....waste of my time.

Now, I have an apple air, 2020 model and having a hard time just adding an external superdrive?
