First of all, let’s correct your misunderstanding about the Apple TV. The Apple TV is a hardware device. Installed on the Apple TV box is an app called Apple TV with which you can buy/rent content, none of which is free. As part of the Apple TV app there is Apple TV+ which is Apple’s streaming service and requires a subscription to watch. Apple TV+ offers a free trial period of 3 months with the purchase of a qualifying Apple product.
So what about free content? You can download apps from the App Store like Netflix, HBO Max, Amazon Prime, ALL of which require paid subscriptions. There are a few apps in the App Store that offer free content but with advertisements.
So no, there is no free anything to watch on the Apple TV except for the few third party apps that offer content free with ads. The same is true for all other streaming boxes and apps. What, exactly, were you expecting?
