how to check the camera works

tried a zoom call, camera didn't work. opened face time, camera didn't work. went to system preference/privacy/camera zoom was checked for camera usage. ran the diagnostics where you start up computer and hold the letter "D", no issues noted. any ideas on how to get the camera working or is it broken forever?
