Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but 10.13 High Sierra is the highest macOS that a Late 2009 iMac can run.

Back up your data, check your applications for compatibility, and depending on which iMac model you have, click on Mojave, Catalina, Big Sur, or Monterey. It needs to be at least a 2012 one to run a newer OS.
If you're going to upgrade to Catalina or newer, 32-bit software won't run afterwards; download and use Go64 to scan for it. To check other programs, click here and look them up.

You cannot upgrade macOS any further.
However, go to the Mac App Store > Purchased. See if you can download GarageBand there.

Its High Sierra 10.13.6 late 2009.Any hope for an OS upgrade? My dilemma is I am trying to download Garage Band for recording my music. The App Store is telling me I need to be at ver11 at least.
