people can't hear me well on Zoom calls, Mac desktop

Any suggestions on how people can hear me better when I'm on Zoom calls? I have zoom checked under Privacy settings in System Preferences. Do I need an external mic? I have Mac OS Monterey on my 2020 Mac desktop.

iMac 21.5″, macOS 10.13
