my airplay on the apple box is not working

what could be wrong?

apps can choose to block airplay if the developer so choose

netflix block it

Netflix confirms it killed AirPlay support, won’t let you beam shows to Apple TVs anymore - The Verge

if it does not work for anything then

If screen mirroring or streaming isn't working on your AirPlay-compatible device - Apple Support
