Unable to add shared MS Exchange mailbox to Apple Mail

Hello


I am trying to add a shared Exchange mailbox to Apple Mail (Monterey) on the Mac mini (M1). I keep on getting 'unable to verify account name or password' error. I was on the phone to Microsoft for 1 hour today and we have the shared mailbox working on Outlook for Mac and Outlook web, but we couldn't get it working on Apple Mail.


I have followed instructions such as these and tried IMAP and other configurations (with Microsoft on the phone).


Grateful if someone has any information on how to make this work.

Hey JJ from OZ,


If we understand correctly, you are trying to add a shared Exchange mailbox to the Mail app and it is not able to verify the account name or password. It looks like you have already done some troubleshooting to solve this issue. Even though there is a chance that you've tried these steps already, we would recommend you follow every step and let us know if the issue persists.


Are other mail accounts able to be added to the Mail app?


If Mail on your Mac keeps asking for your password


Another thing you can do is to create a test user account and then try to add the shared Exchange mailbox to the Mail app and see if the issue persists.

Hello Mario


Thank you for your response. The Mail app has multiple accounts in it (exchange & SMTP). Only shared exchange mailboxes are refusing to work.


When on phone with Microsoft, we tested so many configurations. We also changed a few Azure parameters, with no success. The password i am using is correct as we also tested that.


This is the second clean (newly created) shared mailbox that I am trying to add to Mail app.


I’m wondering if MacOS Monterey dropped support for shared Exchange mailboxes or if there is a new way to configure them that I’m missing?
