iPhone 12 screen scratches easily

I have had iPhones since iPhone 4 and the new iPhone 12 mini scratches really easily. I put it in the side pocket of my cargo pants and when I took it out I noticed small scratches on the screen. I always put my phone in that pocket and this is the only phone that ever scratched. Nothing else was in the pocket. Has the screen type changed? If so why? It’s definitely more susceptible to scratching than any other phone I’ve ever had.

Not sure other than the materials used are different. Some reports claim that the OEM glass tougher/less brittle and more resistant to cracking than previous versions, but that could also mean it's softer and more vulnerable to scratching.
