http remote access not working (VLC 3.0.12 on tvOS 15.2)

I have been a very happy VLC on Apple TV user for a number of years, most often using the remote playback interface to upload movie files onto the Apple TV for playback.

I have just tried to do this again, with the latest version of VLC 3.0.12 for tvOS 15.2, and it no longer works. I am able to launch VLC on the tv and navigate to the Remote Playback screen, where a valid wifi IP (192.168.0.10/5 GHz) is displayed, but when I try to browse this URL on a PC or Mac connected to the same wifi, the browser times out before connecting. I have tried across multiple machines (Windows 10, macOS 12.1) and across multiple browsers for each (Firefox, Chrome, MS Edge, Safari) and the same behaviour occurs - time outs before connecting. I have also tried the alternative URL (http://Living-Room.local) and unsurprisingly this also does not work.

Is there a setting hidden away in tvOS 15.2 that I need to tweak to allow http (not https) URLs to connect? Or is this a standing issue with web connections or with VLC 3.0.12 in particular?

Be sure to specify http:// to avoid the browser trying https:// .

Be sure to have VLC active with the Remote Playback screen in front.

Try in a different browser (Chrome, Firefox, …)

It works for me with Safari 15.2/Monterey 12.1, and Chrome 97/Monterey 12.1, as well as Safari 12.1.2/Sierra 10.12.6, with VLC 3.0.12/tvOS 15.2.

Else your issue is most likely related to the home network and its settings.
