Watch ping and find my iphone are silent on new iphone if volume is all the way down

Hi. I misplace my iPhone a lot and the "ping" from the watch has been a lifesaver. I'm using watch series 3.

I just upgraded my iphone 6s (i know) to a new iphone 13 pro. On my iphone 6s, no matter what the volume level was, when I pinged the phone from my watch it would make a sound. But on the iphone 13 pro, the ping respects the volume level. I often have my volume all the way down, so then there's no ping.

I've also tried Find My iPhone and almost the same thing happens--when I play a sound to locate the device it follows the volume control, so it can be silent. There is vibration, but that's not really useful for finding a lost device.

This isn't really great for finding a missing phone! Is this a bug that will get fixed soon? Or is there a way to make the watch ping always make a sound no matter the volume setting?

Thank you!

iPhone 13 Pro, iOS 15
