I’ve purchased the 2021 10.2 inch iPad and I’ve purchased the pencil 2nd generation but don’t think it’s compatible

The 2021 iPad9 is only compatible with the first generation Apple Pencil.

Here is Apple’s definitive compatibility list for Apple Pencil and iPad:

If purchased directly from Apple, you have 14-days within which you can return the second generation Pencil for exchange or refund.
