Same here. Things were fine before Monterey. I had my Ethernet also disconnect the other day. Another common issue it seems. I held off too for a while until the first dot releases. Mad at myself for upgrading now. Which sidebar are you referring to? I don't see a mention of iCloud in the notes app itself on the Mac. One other data point is that I was asked to change my iCloud password when I setup my new iPad as the password I had didn't meet the new safety requirements they had. This may also be related. Oddly enough a note I started last night on Mac synced fine to my iPad last night. I made changes on the ipad and then didn't see them on the Mac today. I unchecked notes and re-checked it on Mac and now I see no notes at all. I'm going to logout of iCloud and back again, maybe reboot.

Glad it's working. I thought mine was A-OK, but now, for some reason, I cannot create a new note on my MacBook. I started a new Question to the community for this since it's different from the slow-sync issue. Link: Cannot create new note, MacBook Pro - Monterey 12.1

(Right now the only way I can create a new note on my MacBook is by using the "quick note" action that was added with Monterey, which is by clicking the bottom right corner of the screen. 🤨)

My issue occurred right after upgrading to Monterey OS. I went through the unchecking iCloud notes on both devices and restarting both more than once (but I visited iCloud.com first to ensure they were all still in the cloud) and I did a full backup before the upgrade.) The notes on MacBook Pro finally reappeared once the iCloud Drive icon in the sidebar indicated complete. There was just the tiniest sliver remaining before that, so maybe notes were the last to sync. Good luck!

the sidebar in the finder window, right below favorites, then iCloud then Locations. When iCloud is syncing from the upgrade, there’s a circle that fills up as it progresses. Once fully synced, that circle goes away. (See photo)

Anyway, yes I would think that since you reset your iCloud pw on the iPad, logging out of iCloud on the MacBook and then back in, with your new password would be helpful. 🤞
