Inserting photos to a word doc - why can't I see all the photos that are in the library?

I am new to a Mac but have been trying to do this for 3 days now!! I want to insert a photo from my photo library into a word doc, however when I click insert photo from file and select photo's I am only given a small choice of the photos available to me. Why can't I see all the photos that are in my library?

I've just realised somthing else. I think you are using iCloud photos with optimise mac storage.

The photo pane will only show images that have been downloaded to your mac from iCloud. This is why exporting images adds them to those shown as available, because they must be downloaded in order to be exported.

If I'm correct, you may be better off using the export to folder on desktop method rather than using the photos app browser.

If you drag down the grey bar you should be able to see more of the albums. That list should also be scrollable. As should the page of pictures at the bottom. Worst case you should be able to click on an item in either pane, and then scroll up/down with the arrow keys.

Put the pictures you want in an album (I have one called "easy access" for this purpose) and navigate to it in the top pane.

Absolute worst case - export the images to a folder on your desktop, and then navigate to that folder in the left hand side bar (click desktop instead of photos)

Hi Again,

And really appreciate your help!!

I get a choice of about 3 other folders but still it doesn't give me access to the same photos that are in my library? I have tried to get around this by copying them to the desktop this then adds them to the photos I do have available? But this way isn't ideal as you can imagine and I know I haven't clicked something or something isn't set up correctly for this to be happening but I can't seem to problems solve it!!

I also tried favouriting the photos so they would appear in that folder but no luck either!!
