fn + backspace doesn't work as "delete" anymore on the newest magic keyboard

This keyboard shortcut works on all my devices (macbook pro and older magic keyboard without number block). However, the fn + backspace command doesnt work on a magic keyboard i just bought new in the store.

Has the combination changed or did they simply get rid of this function at all? It's very annoying...

Appreciate any hints in that direction.
