How do I stop mail being sent to Archive?

How do I stop mail being sent to Archive? Right now I have over 500 archived pieces of mail, none of which I have chosen to archive, many of which ARE NOT important!

I do not have any criteria for sending mail to Archive, and yet, mail is sent there all the time. I try to weed, but I still have over 500 emails in there, that I do not need archived. How do I stop it?!

went to google's site, not iPhone, or Macbook.

However, I've realized that the "files" for Archive (and Important, which also has a mind of its own) probably don't include "copies" of mail that are labeled inbox or whatever, just that they're just different ways to get to a particular email. That being said, there's no need to get myself tied into knots because of filing! I'll just move the labels off to the end of the line, so they don't stare me in the face anymore!

ie, I'm choosing my battles, and this isn't one of then!

Thank you for answering, though. I appreciate your wanting to help.
