magic 2 keyboard does not control volume

Added a new magic mouse to my iMac but the top row function keys do not control whats on the key. e.g. play / volume / brightness

Make sure "Use F1, F2, etc. keys…" is unchecked in System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard.

Apple Magic Keyboard Recently got a new magic keyboard for my iMac, but i can't figure out why the function keys operate differently as advertised, i have found the option to rebind brightness to F1 and F2, as well as seeing all windows to F, but cannot rebind volume up/down/mute to F12/F11/F9 respectively? is there an option to return the function keys to their listed purposes? for example the F11 was bound to "show desktop" instead of volume down.

magic keyboard function keys do not work Just added a new magic keyboard with numeric pad to my iMac 2013 running 10.11.6 and the function keys (screen brightness, volume, etc.) do not work. Thanks!

Make sure "Use F1, F2, etc. keys…" is unchecked in System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard.

looked at systrem preferences, keyboard then keyboard tab. I have Key repeat / Delay Until Repeat & a checkbox that says Show keyboard and emoji in menu bar. There is no option to uncheck 'Use F1, F2 etc' I am Catalina10.15.7 (i cannot go any higher)
