I set up a rule for my incoming mail.
The problem I am having is:
the mail comes into my inbox as read.
It is not moving to the specific mailbox.
When I hit apply rules then it moves to the correct mailbox.
Action 2 is working but Action 1 only works if I apply the rules manually.
Give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.
NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;
• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed
• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)
• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically
• Disables user-installed fonts
• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

Thank you for this advice. I am following the rules as listed in your document. However, only some of the actions in the rules are being applied. Once again I have a rule with 2 actions 1 - move the email to another mailbox. 2 - make that email as Read.
Only the second action is taking place. If I manually 'Appy Rules" then the mail is moved to the other box. but only when I do it manually.
