Contact duplication

My contacts keep duplicating. How can I eliminate duplicates (all at once, not one by one)?

Hi kd194,

We see your contacts duplicate unexpectedly.

To make sure we're on the same page, when did this start happening? For example, did you recently add a new email address, or a new account? You can check what accounts are syncing contacts on your iPhone under Settings > Contacts > Accounts. If you have multiple accounts there, uncheck Contacts for each account one by one, and see if your duplicates disappear.

If they do, you likely have your contacts stored using two different services: for example, they're uploaded both to iCloud and Gmail or Outlook etc.

You can also see more info regarding duplicate contacts here:

Cheers!

kd194,

To isolate further, visit iCloud.com on a web browser, sign in and check the Contacts section there. If they're duplicated at iCloud.com, we'd recommend reaching out to Apple Support directly for additional assistance:

If they're not duplicated at the iCloud website, it means somethings going on with your other email account that lead to the data being duplicated. The best advise we can offer at that point if you can't remove the duplicates by unchecking and rechecking the account is to reach out to whomever provides it. For example, if it's a Gmail, then Google; or Outlook, reach out to Microsoft, etc.

Take care.
