How do you reset apple tv when the remote is not responding and power cycle doesn't work?

I was trying to do a reset and update function on my apple TV. During the update, it hung up. I have then performed power cycles, and it does not work. The MENU button on remote is not responding but the volume button works. I can reset it by pressing MENU + HOME buttons, but after the reset, the MENU button on remote still not responding. How can I do a factory reset, when the apple TV and the remote are not responding?
