MacBook Pro 2017 swollen battery

My MacBook Pro 2017 15” battery had swollen and the bottom being inflated and distorted pushing the mother board.

I took it to Apple and had to fight that this is a manufacture defect! A battery can die, but to swollen is a different issue.

I upgraded from Sierra to Monterrey and it literally destroyed the entire file order it took me years to build

I had backup and technician recommended I go back to Sierra after We wipe out entire drive.

sorry, but is this all real ? I invested 4,000$ in this machine to be the Rolls Roy of the computers to go through ****?

the machine was hardly in use in last 4 years sitting in my table in pristine conditions

any comments on similar cases?

Apple will replace a swollen battery for free if the laptop is less than three years old, but if the laptop is older than three years, then you will be responsible for the cost to replace the battery. A swollen battery does not necessarily mean a manufacturing defect though. Laptops do suffer from impacts/jostling (even if very minor) and extreme temperatures all of which can affect the battery's physical health. Lithium-ion batteries are known to swell. Apple has set prices for replacing batteries although the price from an AASP may be a bit more if the AASP performs the repair in their own shop since the Apple listed price assumes having the laptop mailed into an Apple mail-in repair depot for the battery replacement.
