Hi dreiym258,

It looks like someone locked and/or erased your Mac using Find My Mac. (It can be accessed by signing in with the correct Apple ID at icloud.com/find.) During the lock and/or erase process, the person performing the action is required to set an unlock PIN. That is what your Mac is currently asking for in order to unlock.

If your Mac was only locked (not erased), it will start up as normal when the correct PIN is provided. If the Mac was erased, unfortunately your data is gone, unless you made a backup earlier.

If this only happened recently, try signing into Find My Mac, and check if there is an Unlock option for your Mac. If it appears, it will reveal the correct PIN.

You might want to consider contacting your previous employer in case the Mac was signed into their Apple ID, and if they performed this action. If they did, they will have the unlock PIN needed.
