It may be a problem with the built in noise cancellation feature. If you have a case on the phone make sure it doesn’t cover the back microphone, which is the small hole near the camera. Also be sure you aren’t covering it with your hand. You can also try turning noise cancellation on or off. It’s in Settings/Accessibility/Audio & Visual.
