Saving contacts to SIM cards
Can anyone answer WHY iPhone doesn’t allow contacts to be saved to the SIM card? Is it simply to charge more money for iCloud over the 5 gig free?

Because they don't support it and never have, iphones don't store anything on the SIM card.
SIM cards have very little storage space on them.
It's also easy to pop out your SIM card, read the contact info on it.
Contacts don't take up much space, why would you need to use more than the free 5GB?
Also you can store contact information in any email providers, Google or Microsoft for example.
5GB free is not huge, I don’t just have contacts in iCloud but photos etc too, like most ppl.
You used to be able to choose where to save contacts, sim only, phone only or both. Yes I’m old, and until today had no idea they were only saved to the cloud
Mine are in Gmail, on my phone, saved in my Mac mini and in icloud.
I don't pay for extra storage through icloud.
Photos are backed up on my Mac.
Apple isn't trying to force you to buy anything.
Online storage is available from Amazon, Microsoft, Google, etc.
Thanks for taking the time to answer my question.
I’m trying to work out how to upload contacts to Microsoft now via my iPhone. I don’t have a computer only the phone,
Thank you so much for your help today! Problem solved
